Rare opportunity to work remotely from your own home office as the Agriculture Underwriting Manager for this highly respected “A” rated specialty lines company. In addition to leading and managing an underwriting department of Ag underwriters and underwriting assistants, you will also drive key financial metrics for profitable growth within a given territory. You’ll work with internal departments such as product management and actuarial to monitor rates, product and agency loss ratios.  While maintaining underwriting controls to insure a profitable loss ratio, you will also recommend marketing ideas of new products as well as distribution channels to increase premium production. Products may include but are not limited to agriculture production operations, equestrian operations, horse owner liability & farm risk management. Regular travel up to 15% to meet with agents for training and initial business development plans and attend relevant industry events.
Primary Responsibilities include:   Supervisory
Manage the activities of the Ag underwriting staff to ensure quality service, compliance of underwriting guidelines, eligibility & rating standards. Identify educational needs and institute appropriate training for the staff. Review all submissions outside the underwriters’ authorities.  Direct the underwriters on appropriate actions to be taken. Monitor the underwriting results, conduct audits, and prepare action plans as a result of the audit results.
Primary Responsibilities include:  Management
Develop, update and implement AG business underwriting guidelines. Analyze and advise the market on premium, rates, retention and loss ratios for each product.  Recommend, develop and implement plans for improvement. Participate in the development of new products and marketing channels.  Review new filings and forms. Develop new distribution channels. Ability to work in an automated underwriting system and  electronic workflow environment (i.e. ImageRight or similar software).  
Primary Responsibilities include:  Agency Growth & Relations
Build relationships with agents and other individuals and entities within the agriculture and equestrian marketplace to assure a steady stream of valuable and actionable competitive intelligence. Analyze agents’ on overall results and recommend any corrective action that needs to be taken.  Determine and recommend agents’ training needs. Review prospective new agents for appointments.  Recommend or decline appointments based on underwriting process.  Propose binding authority limits for each product.
Skills & Experience required include:
Must have 7+ years of  Ag underwriting experience with progressive advancement in a retail, MGU, or company setting, underwriting farm, ranch, equine package accounts and related coverages. Knowledge of farm, ranch and Equine/Equestrian property, inland marine, care custody or control, General Liability, commercial auto and excess liability lines of business. Familiar with compliance and regulatory requirements with respect to filings, cancellation and non-renewal of policies, deletion of coverages, risk specific rate changes, manuscript endorsements, or non-disclosure or misrepresentation. Must demonstrate strong presentation and negotiation skills. Must possess excellent research, analytical, interpersonal, communication, organizational, time management and problem solving and decision making skills.
